2 Possible Reasons Why Your Lawn Mower Stalls Out Immediately After You Start It

Blog

When you are cutting your grass, you may be used to having the lawn mower stall when you are going through high areas or when it is almost out of gas. However, you may have been having problems lately starting the mower because it stalls almost immediately after you start it.

After making sure that the gas tank is full and the blades are not clogged up with grass clippings, you will need to look for another explanation. Below are a couple of possible reasons why your lawn mower keeps stalling out, requiring that it be taken to a repair technician.

1. The Engine Is Not Getting Enough Air Because of a Clogged Air Filter

One possible reason why your mower sputters and dies right after you start it or as soon as you start cutting grass is that the engine is not getting enough air. Because the lawn mower's engine is exposed to dirt, pollen, and tiny bits of cut grass, its air filter will start to clog up.

When clogged up, the engine cannot breathe, causing it to shut off. If the air filter is clogged, you should have a professional change it so that they can ensure that its encasement is fully cleaned out so that it does not clog up again too soon.

2. The Engine Is Not Receiving Enough Fuel Because of an Issue with the Fuel Line

Another possible cause of the lawn mower stalling is that the engine is not getting enough gas. This problem is usually caused by an issue with the fuel line.

If there is a problem with the fuel line, it may be clogged up and needs to be flushed out. Or, it may have been damaged and is bent so badly that gas cannot flow through it. Either way, a repair technician will be needed to either flush out or replace the fuel line.

When your lawn mower's engine sputters and dies almost immediately after you start it, the problem is usually caused by a clogged air filter and an issue with the fuel line. While these may seem like simple things to fix, if you do not have much experience working on lawn mower engines, you should not try to deal with the problem yourself. Instead, take your lawn mower to a professional who offers small engine repair services to have them verify the cause of the stalling so they can fix the issue properly.

Keep Your Vehicle Safe

Hello. My name’s Samuel Jacobs. I retired from my job as an auto mechanic last year. During my years as a mechanic, I had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. Some have remained friends to this day. When I was working, there is one thing that I came across at least weekly. That is how uneducated people are when it comes to their vehicle’s tires. Properly cared for tires are crucial to the safety of your vehicle. Without them, your car isn’t going anywhere. If they give out on you while you are driving, there is the potential for serious injury. I’m going to share some tire safety information here. Things like the importance of correct inflation, how to check the tread, when to replace tires, tire rotation, and what to do in case of a blow-out. I hope you find this information to be helpful.
