Learn How To Care For And Clean Windows That Have Been Tinted

Blog

After you have finished applying tint to your van's windows, learn how to care for them and clean them so that the tint remains intact and damage free.

Materials

  • glass cleaner
  • lint free cloths
  • water
  • mild detergent
  • plastic scraper

Allow Plenty Of Drying Time

Window tint can take a couple days to dry completely. During this time, avoid touching the tint and do not roll down the windows in your vehicle. Doing so could cause the tint to loosen or cause permanent marks on the surface of one of the windows. If air bubbles are visible under the pieces of tint, do not be alarmed. This is common and the bubbles will go away after all of the water that lays between the tint and the window has evaporated.

Clean The Exterior And Interior

Clean the exterior side of each window first. Make sure that the windows are rolled up completely. Spray standard glass cleaner on a lint free cloth to remove surface stains and debris on the glass. Move the cloth in straight lines as you wipe each window. This will eliminate streaks and will give the glass a shiny appearance. Clean the interior side of each window next. Wipe each window off with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using glass cleaner that contains ammonia on the interior because it can damage the tint, causing it to become brittle or discolored.

Move the cloth over each window with straight strokes. Use firm pressure to remove fingerprints or residue. If any greasy substances are on the windows, add a couple drops of mild detergent to the cloth to remove them. Wipe the same areas off with a damp cloth and dry off each window with a clean, lint free cloth.

Remove Wrinkles Near The Edges

If any edges of the film appear to have small wrinkles in them, remove them out with a plastic putty knife. Wrap the putty knife in a cloth and press it against the film. Move the putty knife outwards until you reach the edge of the film. Do not attempt to seal any loose edges around the pieces of tint. This could damage the tint. It is common for tint to come loose near the edges after it is on a window for a long amount of time.

If you are concerned about the condition of the tint in your vehicle, have it inspected by a professional company that installs tint. A simple repair can usually be completed to restore the tint to its original condition. In the future, clean the windows with the same steps and the tint will continue to provide you with privacy and protection from the sun when you are driving.

Keep Your Vehicle Safe

Hello. My name’s Samuel Jacobs. I retired from my job as an auto mechanic last year. During my years as a mechanic, I had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. Some have remained friends to this day. When I was working, there is one thing that I came across at least weekly. That is how uneducated people are when it comes to their vehicle’s tires. Properly cared for tires are crucial to the safety of your vehicle. Without them, your car isn’t going anywhere. If they give out on you while you are driving, there is the potential for serious injury. I’m going to share some tire safety information here. Things like the importance of correct inflation, how to check the tread, when to replace tires, tire rotation, and what to do in case of a blow-out. I hope you find this information to be helpful.
